Just Do It

It has been quite some time since I have posted on this blog (sorry readers). I have had lots of things happen, but to minimize a lengthy update I will summarize it by saying that although quite a few were a bit discouraging, nothing has stopped me from remaining optimistic and destined to succeed.

Through all my experiences lately, I have decided to give myself the title of “Professional Optimist” since life seems to try and get me down but I just won’t let it, but that is a topic for another day.

Today’s topic is about actually doing what you say you are going to do. I have found it extremely common (and saddening) in society today that people make all these great plans and have all these wonderful ideas but they never follow through with them, so that’s all they ever remain, plans and ideas.

Without taking the initiative to do something, your plan or idea is worthless. Telling yourself you are going to succeed is only going to get you so far. I want to do professional event planning and producing, I can tell myself as many times as I want that that’s what I will do with my life but unless I actually get off my butt and put it into action, its worthless.

Think of it this way, you can say “Oh, I am going back to school” as many times as you want but what have you done to go back to school? I have put off graduate school for two years now, kept saying “I am going back to school” but I never actually did anything other than meet with the school and take GMAT prep courses (which is still better than nothing). However, without the actual exam scheduled and taken (with a more than decent score) and application completed and sent off, I really haven’t done anything.

It finally took seeing my sister return from Ethiopia and enroll back at school in less than a month from returning (insert comment about how much my sister rocks here) that really gave me the incentive to actually do what it takes to go get my MBA.

So for the past two years I have been talking the talk about going back to school, well now its time to walk the walk!
